Pub(l)ic poetry workshop
Ekphrasis has been around for millennia: writing (often but not always poetry) in response to other artworks (often but not always visual). It’s a great way for beginners to start writing, or to break writers’ block.
Come down to Sac ‘o’ Suds Launderette, Castlemaine, for a quick and dirty workshop focused on ekphrasis poetry. You just need a pen and a bit of paper!
During the Castlemaine Fringe Festival, Sac ‘o’ Suds plays host to Smerkin Merkins – an exhibition of contemporary merkins created by local artists. That’s right, another ancient art form: pubic wigs. This workshop will use the instore exhibition as our ekphrasis subjects.
I’ll walk you through some ekphrasis approaches and we’ll have some fun sharing what we come up with.
When: Sunday, March 23rd,
10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Sac ‘o’ Suds Launderette, 231 Barker St, Castlemaine
Cost: $30 full / $20 concession
Advice: All are welcome, but discretion is advised since the exhibition and writing content might include adult references or language.
Bookings essential as the workspace is limited. Wheelchair accessible, it is a working launderette. Why not spin your merkins clean while we write?
